joy
is a form of self-preservation
resistance by means of levity
refusal to conform to old gravity
a makeshift space of celebration
amongst all that is wreckage
here, however transient
there is right to such ample breath
it covers the cost of laughter
the melody of happiness
we collect these moments like
bulbs for the dark, commit
them to memory, they are
after all,
a safeguard for sanity.
